FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
Horse Slaughter – America’s Dirty Secret, will it end?
September 7th 2006…the House of Representatives voted, by a large majority of votes, in favor of HR503, the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act.
More than 90,000 US horses have been slaughtered in 2005 for the purpose of exporting their meat overseas a a culinary treat for the rich and privileged. These horses were raised for companions, racing competition and/or family pets. They are purchased by “kill buyers” who frequent auctions, racetracks and boarding facilities often telling the sellers that they have wonderful homes planned for these horses. Also, up to 30% of the horses slaughtered at any of the three remaining slaughterhouses still operating in the US are stolen.
The slaughter process begins when the horses are inhumanely transported for long periods of time in shocking conditions. They are deprived of water, rest and food for more than 24 hours. At the slaughterhouse they often suffer from egregious treatment prior to being bled out.
Another Chance 4 Horses is a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to providing horses “another chance at life.” All donations are tax deductible, and all money raised goes directly for the rehabilitation of the horses. Please support Another Chance 4 Horses, and help us to help the horses for more information please see our website www.ac4h.com or call 610-621-5290.
We now urge you to support the passage of S. 1915 which is the companion bill to HR 503 passed September 7, 2006. Please call your Senators and ask them to save the horses.
